“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment!” – Tao Tzu
One of my favorite quotes and since years it is feeding my thought process. The term takes us more to spiritual state of mind as it is much deeper experience where the confusions are removed, a great revelation and understanding enabling the clarity of perception.
Since this is an individual experience and not occurred to most, it is really difficult to express and explain it with a set of words. However, when I think about this experience of ‘enlightenment’, I see the ‘light’. The Sun is an original source of light & energy. It does not need to borrow the same from anywhere and this energy and light is so ample that the universe rely on the same.
I feel ‘enlightenment’ is that original source of light and energy within an individual. We all have it within us however we do not know the means to explore it. More we dive deep within ourselves, finding our purpose, passion, goals and what makes us happy ultimately… what we may find at the core of this journey could be ‘enlightenment’. It could be knowing ‘self’ beyond ‘self’. It could be that ultimate wisdom which makes us look beyond our wants, desires and give a sense of fulfillment in doing something for others.
We cannot understand others if we do not understand our own ‘self’. The term carries more of philosophical meaning as it talks about ‘life’ and the way we perceive it. It is not mandatory to reach the state of ‘enlightenment’. However, all those making a journey to serve the ‘sense of purpose’ tend to walk towards this experience.
A conscious effort to find that light within would definitely take us to this experience; however, we must check whether we are ready to pay the price to be able to reach this destination!
Do share your thoughts and experiences… I am curious!
