The task completions are often hampered by distractions. We consider them beyond our control but here is the honest question – are they really beyond our control always. Let’s understand the types of distractions for the same:
1. Emotional distractions – things happen in our surrounding… we hear them, see them and at times cannot choose not to let the voice or visuals received by our brain impact us. It is natural right?
2. Physiological distractions – Imagine yourself working with a complete concentration and your baby suddenly coming and hugging you. If it is a natural affectionate hug it doesn’t really affect your work… In fact, you get more energy at times. But, imagine if you had scolded the child and then the baby asking you to forgive through that hug… the emotional turbulence distracts more.
3. Self-distractions – Some emotions, thoughts keep flowing at the back of our mind always. They do distract depending upon their extent.
4. Thought distraction – The task triggering some thought process. We really need to train our brain to deal with them. If not done, they take us to other planet altogether.
5. External distractions – Somebody eating up your time which is unplanned, an appointment which got suddenly fixed. The person distracts you and the thought of that waste of time and the irritation arising from the same distracts you further.
So, how do you deal with them and what could be the effective ways to do so… In the next post…
